Faith

What we believe

First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We hold the historic Christian faith, shared by believers across the centuries and around the world.

01

One God, made known in Jesus Christ

We worship the one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and trust that God is made fully known to us in Jesus Christ, crucified and risen.

02

Scripture

We receive the Old and New Testaments as the written Word of God, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ, and our guide for faith and life.

03

Grace alone

We believe we are saved by God's grace through faith — not by our own merit. It is a gift, freely given, that calls us to live in gratitude and love.

04

The Sacraments

We celebrate two sacraments given by Christ: Baptism, the sign of God's claim on our lives, and the Lord's Supper, where we are nourished at his table.

05

The Reformed tradition

We stand in the Reformed stream of the Christian church — shaped by Scripture, the historic creeds and confessions, and the conviction that the church is reformed and always being reformed by God's Word.

06

A connected church

Presbyterians are governed together, not alone. Our congregation is led by a Session of elders and connected through the Presbytery of the Pacific to the wider Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

These are the convictions we share with the wider church. To learn more about the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Reformed faith, visit pcusa.org.
